Mr. Samarendra Nath Goswami

BIMS Founder and BIMF Patron

Senior Advocate Mr. Samarendra Nath Goswami is the founder of Bangladesh International Mediation Society (BIMS), Bangladesh that is the first international mediation institute of Bangladesh. BIMS registered in 2017 and is a nonprofit and nonpolitical, government registered society. He obtained M.A (Edn.), LL.B., B.Ed., LL.M degree from University of Dhaka and University of Rajshahi respectively. Mr. SN Goswami is a designated Senior Advocate Appellate Division, Supreme Court of Bangladesh and specialized Counsel and Party appointed Neutral Arbitrator, Commercial Mediator and Adjudicator. He has facilitated commercial mediation and has extended advisory to local law firms on ADR mechanism and very actively promotes ADR in Bangladesh. He is the founder of Naogaon Law College, Bangladesh and also founder and Chairman of many more Mediators forums and organizations. He is the founder and publisher of monthly law journal “Bangladesh Law Times” and is the author of “Bahai Personal Law”.

Dr. George Yesu Vedha Victor

Professor George Yesu Vedha Victor is an accomplished Lawyer, Physicist and Applied Geophysicist with a Doctorate Degree, Chartered Engineer (UK), Certified Dredge Master, Qualified in Finance Management, Port Development and Management, Containerization and Logistics Management. He is an approved guide for PhD / MS scholars. He serves as Editorial Board Member, International Peer Review Member, National Committee Member and International Council Member for Board of Studies. He serves as Chairman and member in National and International technical committees constituted both by Government, University and Research organizations. He served as a member in the Expert Committee on Skill Development Program of Sagarmala, Government of India. He is empaneled as Resource Person and Senior Expert in Centre of Excellence, Ministry of Shipping.
He is a Lawyer and Fellow, International Arbitrator, Mediator, Emergency Arbitrator and practices Admiralty, Marine, UNCLOS, Environment, Insolvency and Contract Law. He is an established expert in Risk, Conflict and Litigation Management including Dispute Resolution, Mediation, Negotiation and Arbitration. He provides Expert Opinion, serves as Dispute Board Member, Mediator and Arbitrator as Sole, Panel of Arbitrator in Government, Public Sector Undertaking and Private Companies. He is a “Fellow” in the Indian Council of Arbitration (ICA) and FICCI Arbitration and Conciliation Tribunal (FACT). He is empanelled as Marine Expert, Arbitrator, and Mediator in National and International institutions and societies in Asia, Pacific and Europe region. He is a master trainer, assessor and speaker and has widely travelled to many countries.
He serves as Technical Orientation Committee Member, an apex committee in World Dredging Association (WoDA), Board Member of Eastern Dredging Association (India, Australia), General Secretary of Eastern Dredging Association (India). He serves as a member of various technical committees in the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Member of Global Network for Human Rights and the Environment; mentor in Sustainable Ocean Alliance, amongst others. He serves as scientific committee member in WoDA for Deep Sea Mining and UNCLOS for industrial recommendation to the International Seabed Authority for Deep Sea Mining. He serves as a member of the Environmental Committee in the Institute of Physics (UK).
He is recipient of awards amongst others, “Exemplary Achievement Award”, “Maritime Award” by Govt. of India, “Top 100 Engineer”, “Exemplary Personal Achievement”, “Award of Excellence” and “Contribution to Indian Dredging Industry”. He was awarded “Young Scientist Award” by Tamil Nadu Department of Science and Technology for his contribution to research in marine engineering and environment.
 

Ms. Ferda Paksoy

Ferda Canözer Paksoy is the international spokeswoman of Bangladesh International Mediators Society (BIMS), has been an active mediator, expert mediator trainer, negotiation specialist, and conflict resolution management consultant for companies since 2007. Accredited by the International Mediation Institute (IMI), Paksoy plays a pivotal role in international projects, commercial and contractual disputes, partnerships and mergers, family constitution creation, institutionalization, impact investments, and start-up journeys. She acts as a neutral facilitator between parties, ensuring swift and effective solutions with her team.
She has specialized in corporate, consumer, and workplace disputes within industries such as agriculture, textiles, energy, healthcare, automotive, construction, and finance. With over twenty years of experience in cross-border disputes and agreements involving foreign elements, Paksoy serves as a member of the Turkey Desk in the International Mediators Panel under the United Nations Programs and Funds Ombudsman. She has also served as a member of the Advisory Board of the Asia-Africa Mediation Association and as a spokesperson for the Bangladesh International Mediation Institute. Additionally, she is a mediator on the international panel of the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) in the United Arab Emirates.

Paksoy has contributed as a key expert and trainer in the European Union and Turkish Ministry of Justice-funded project “Better Access to Justice in Turkey” and has produced social responsibility and public projects to promote the widespread use and recognition of mediation in Turkey. Throughout her career, she has played an active role in the resolution of over 2,000 disputes, gaining experience in online mediation since 2014.
She has presented numerous papers at international conferences and led mediation and legal aid projects for both local and international NGOs. As a specialist mediator trainer at Istanbul Bilgi University, Ferda Canözer Paksoy not only shares her knowledge and experience in the field but also contributes to the education of the next generation of professionals in mediation and conflict management.

Her team at Istanbul Bilgi University has participated in international mediation competitions four times, achieving notable success. Since 2009, she has served as a judge and evaluator in several international mediation competitions, organized by prominent organizations like the ICC, ADR ODR International, and CEDR, which are regarded as the most reputable in the field. Her international expertise in mediation and negotiation practices makes her a sought-after thought leader in the industry.

Ferda Canözer Paksoy’s work in the field of social impact focuses on strengthening social peace and justice. By reaching out to broader segments of society, she promotes the adoption of mediation and peaceful resolution methods. The training programs and awareness campaigns she conducts contribute significantly to the establishment of social justice and peace.

Ms. Priyanka Chakraborty

Priyanka Chakraborty was born in an educated middle class family in Kolkata, India and was brought up and completed her schooling in Ranchi. Having an immense interest towards speaking up for the right and solving disagreements between people she decided to pursue law. Completing her 5 year integrated BBA. LLB. from Symbiosis International University,India she pursued her LL.M. from the University of Auckland, New Zealand with specialization in Dispute Resolution and International Litigation.
She returned to India from NZ and entered the academic field and is presently working as a Teaching Associate with National Law School of India University, Bangalore. She has research work published in national journals and attended many national and international conferences. She is also a trained Mediator and Commercial Negotiator by IIAM and is working with Online Consumer Mediation Center at NLSIU. Presently, she is enrolling herself for a doctorate at NLSIU to pursue further research in the field of mediation.
She believes in the power of mediation and passionately wants to pursue it further.
 

Ms. Aroti Goyal

Aroti has a broad range of experiences, primarily in the litigation and disputes sector. Her expertise lies in civil and commercial litigation at the Supreme Court of India and appellate courts in India which include labour and employment disputes, property, real estate, tax and ADR. She has advised varied clients including pharmaceutical companies and financial services sector. 

Apart from her private practice, she has also worked with the State Government. She was appointed as the civil litigation counsel by the Office of Senior Standing counsel of Chandigarh at the Punjab and Haryana High court. 
Aroti is passionate about mediation and an accredited Mediator in India, Bangladesh and New York. She is a trainer for prospective law students and law graduates who wish to enter the legal profession or seek guidance about their career path. 

Aroti holds a Masters in law degree from Columbia University school of law, New York, USA and a dual degree in Bachelors of law and Bachelors of commerce from Panjab University, Chandigarh, India.

Ms. Aasha Poresh Mohannt

Mrs. Asha Paresh Mahant is a Lawyer and Solicitor. She is the founding partner of Law Firm, Rajani Associates and has worked as a Senior Associate with AZB & Partners. 
Mrs. Mahant is a transactional lawyer with extensive work experience in general corporate, cross border M&As, joint ventures, private equity, banking and financing transactions, having excellent drafting and negotiation skills, the ability to lead and steer transactions, mentor and guide a team while continuing to be a team player. Mrs. Mahant has vast experience in several complex and big-ticket M&A transactions across a variety of industry sectors including the Financial Services, Steel, Shipping, Oil, Telecom, Infrastructure, IT/ITES & Software, E-Commerce and Logistics. She has advised on acquisition of businesses in the UK, USA, Singapore, Oman, Qatar and Dubai. Worked on restructuring of Floating Rate Notes of USD250 million, issue of non-convertible debenture issues of Rs. 2400 crores,  Rs.800  crores and Rs.100 crores, restructuring of non-convertible debenture issues of Rs.2600 crores and Rs.265 crores.
She is enrolled with the Law Society of England & Wales and Bombay Incorporated Law Society since 1998. She is a trained mediator and arbitrator. She is empanelled as a mediator with Bombay High Court and Bangladesh International Mediation Society and is Certified Mediation Advocate with the Standing Conference of Mediation Advocates (U.K).
 

Ms. Manisha T Karia

Vice Chairman

Manisha Karia is a practicing Advocate-on-Record in the Supreme Court of India and she regularly appears as Counsel before the Arbitration Tribunals, High Courts and National Commissions and Tribunals. She also sits as an Arbitrator and is an accredited Mediator having extensive experience in the field of Mediation. 
 
She is empaneled as senior mediator at the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission and with Singapore International Mediation Centre (SIMC) having successfully completed specialist Mediator Workshop at Singapore. She has also completed a course conducted by master trainers by CEDR and has been handling complex Mediations for national and international clients. She is appointed by Bangladesh International Mediation Society as the ambassador and faculty.

She has extensive experience of more than 23 years in handling a broad range of complex, high-value international and domestic disputes and has represented clients across diverse sectors. Her expertise spans across Supreme Court matters in varied sectors and areas of laws including constitutional, education, corporate-commercial disputes (insolvency, contract, competition, company), consumer protection, service/employment/labour, property, insurance, taxation, intellectual property, criminal and international and domestic commercial arbitrations. 

She is Standing Counsel for National Council for Teachers Training (“NCTE”), represented State of Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh as panel lawyer before Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, Panel lawyer for Institute of Chater Accountants of India since 2016, National Capital Region Transport Corporation (“NCRTC”), Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd. And represent Gujarat Secondary and Higer Secondary Board and Textbook Board, and Institute of Charter Accountants of India (“ICAI”) before all court situated at Delhi. 
 
She has been appointed as Amicus Curiae by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in several matters and has been on the panel of Amicus and legal aid of the Supreme Court. 

Manisha has contributed extensively to Animal Welfare Laws being part of legal committee for advising and making Rules/Regulations and conducting trainings for Animal Welfare Board of India. 
At the forefront of legal issues, she has number of reported judgments to her credit which involved and settled important question of laws. She has contributed to numerous publications by regularly writing on several topics in reputed legal portals and publications. She is a co-author of the chapter on “India” in on – “Electronic Evidence” published by Lexis Nexis Butterworth. She has contributed chapter on “Law of Conciliation in India” in the book on Conciliation & Mediation in India published by Kluwer International. Her chapter on “Role of Mediation in International Dispute” was published and appreciated by Africa India Mediation Association. She has regularly contributed articles in “FLAIR Talk” on significant topics published by All India Reporter.     

She is recognized by Forbes India Legal Power List 2021 as Top Advocate of Record practicing before Hon’ble Supreme Court of India. She is invited as resource person by National Judicial Academy, Bhopal and also conducted mediation training for the Judges of Bangladesh. She has been invited as a speaker and judged several moot court and other competitions held by ILS Law College, Amity College, Gujarat National Law University and Aligarh Muslim University. She has been conducting technical sessions for Institute of Chartered Accountants of India on varied subjects. She has mentored and delivered several lectures on internships and soft skills for law students.         
 

Mr. Md Mahbubul Islam

Mahbubul Islam is a practicing lawyer before The Supreme Court of Bangladesh having familiarity as legal consultant and attorney with over 22 years. He has also acted as mediator and as advisor/representative in both mediations and arbitrations, in home and abroad. Mr. Islam is an accredited mediator and arbitrator trained by BIMS.  He is founding President of Bangladesh Mediators’ Forum (BMF).
He has skills and experience in economic, social and cultural ‘ESC’ rights in different developmental projects, particularly those focused on poverty alleviation through socio-cultural and economic development in light of human rights frame work.  
Mahbub is strong in facilitation skills and research experience with different national and international organizations, he has worked and produced study reports for UNHABITAT, UNESCO, UNDP, United Nations University (UNU), Action Aid Bangladesh, CCDB, Practical Action Bangladesh, Agriterra Netherlands, GTZ, Society of Justice and many local NGOs and civil society groups.
Mr. M Islam holds LL.M. (Master in Law) and LL. B. (Bachelor of Law) under University of Dhaka, BSS (Bachelor of Social Science) in Economics and MSS (Master in Social Science) in Economics under University of Dhaka. 

Mr. Devajyoti Barman

Mr Devajyoti Barman is an Advocate. Arbitrator, Trained Mediator and Corporate Counsel having 23 years of experience behind him in various Courts of law in Kolkata including High Court, Calcutta and Supreme Court of India in the fields arbitrations, real estate contract/title research, analysis, preparation, negotiation, drafting, completing documentations and registration of deeds, etc. for both individual and banking and financial institutions. He Runs a Law Firm named ‘Ace Legal’ as Managing Partner having pan Indian presence.
He is -
i. Appointed as the Arbitrator in SEBI approved Arbitration Appellate Panel of Calcutta Stock Exchange.

Malladi Vasudeb

Malladi Vasudev is a Senior Advocate in Khammam, Telangana, having put up 45 years of practice. 
He was Public Prosecutor during 1989 – 95.  
By virtue of his practice, he did number of Civil & Criminal cases in Trail Court.  
He did his M.Com., & LL.B., from Nagpur University and LL.M., from Kakatiya University, India. 
He is an Accredited Mediator of ‘Bangladesh International Mediation Society’ (BIMS), & Accredited Mediator of ‘Indian Institute of Arbitration & Mediation’ (IIAM) from India.  
He is fortunate to attended International Peace Seminar in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on the eve of ‘International Peace Day Celebrations’ – 2018.
He was a faculty in the State Bank Training Institute, and guest lecturer in Law College, at Khammam.

Nowshad Iftequar

Mr. Nowshad Iftequre is an advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh who practices a variety of legal specialities. In the UK, he graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the University of London. His academic credentials include a Bachelor of Social Science (BSS) and a Master of Social Science (MSS) in Anthropology from the University of Dhaka.
As an accredited mediator with the Bangladesh International Mediation Society (BIMS), he is deeply committed to fostering peace among his community members through mediation and arbitration procedures. His present role is secretary general of the Bangladesh Mediators' Forum (BMF), an organization dedicated to enhancing mediation practices in Bangladesh.

Dr. Uttam Kumar Das

Member

Dr. Uttam Kumar Das is an Advocate in the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, a Legal Academic, Accredited Mediator, and also a Former International Civil Servant.
He has a sound academic background having two Master of Laws (LL. M.) degrees from the University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh (1993) and the University of Minnesota Law School (2010); and a Doctor of Philosophy in Law (2002) from the Institute of Bangladesh Studies (IBS) at the University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. 
Dr. Das’s specialization is in the International Human Rights Law, Constitutional Laws, Administrative Laws, and Labour Laws of Bangladesh. 
He has served for the United Nations Systems for about 14 years, including eight years with the International Labour Organization (ILO).
He has earned three more masters’ degrees in the Human Rights Law, Victimology and Restorative Justice, and Industrial Relations. 
Dr. Das is an Associate Professor in the Department of Law, Dhaka International University in Bangladesh.

Ms. Sanjukta Basu Mallick

Miss Sanjukta Basu Mallick is an advocate, corporate counsel having 10 years of experience behind her in High Court Calcutta, District Courts and NCLT. She has been associated with a number of Law Firms in Kolkata as its Counsel and Legal Advisor. She specializes in Banking and corporate matters in both trial and appeal stage. She has a good academic career and teaches Law in R N S Memorial in Kolkata as its part time Faculty.

Ms. Momtaj Parvin

She holds an LL.B (Hon's.) and an LL.M from the University of Dhaka. She is a full-time practicing advocate, accredited by the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, and an accredited mediator. She also serves as an executive member of the Bangladesh Mediators Forum.
She has completed more than 7 years in the Hon'ble High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, and prior to that, she spent an additional 5 years as an Advocate in the Judge (Lower) Court.
Throughout her practice in both Courts, she witnessed the suffering of people due to the delays and complex procedures. Finding this deeply unjust, she actively participated in various mediation and arbitration sessions to provide faster, more efficient resolutions.
She is passionate about furthering her expertise in mediation and arbitration, applying the valuable experience she has gathered from her work in court and through specialized training courses. She looks forward to future opportunities to make a significant impact in the field.
